One of the greatest gifts during the pandemic was watching my dad, Sidney Williams, live out Fishing Differently — building Oikos and creating spaces where the vision of often overlooked communities could thrive. But that wasn’t the first time I watched him lead. I also watched him fish differently for me and my siblings, especially when it prepared to our college opportunities. He helped each of reimagine what it looks like to build opportunity when the traditional systems don’t work in our favor. - Sarah: Excelling in academics, leadership, character and physical fitness she earned admission into the Naval Academy, one of the most selective institutions in the country. - Hannah: Received a near full-ride scholarship to Howard University recognized and supported for her exceptional academic achievement. - Sidney: Accepted into one of the top HBCU architecture programs and cut his tuition in half. - Me: Secured eight full-ride scholarships and graduated from Princeton debt-free. Instead of chasing the conventional path, he taught us how to lead, how to serve, and how to turn purpose into strategy. That approach — rooted in faith, creativity, and stewardship. Our success wasn’t a fluke or an accident, it was an intentional, strategic approach. Now, that same principle guides my work. In the last few years, I’ve helped students secure nearly 4 million in scholarships and admissions to some of the top schools in the country. If you’ve ever been inspired by Fishing Differently, know that it doesn’t just work in our communities, it works in our homes, and especially in the college admissions process. Today, I help parents and students fish differently in their college process — to see beyond the obvious, to build intentionally, and to open doors that were never meant to be closed. That’s why I’m hosting Defy the Decline, a free webinar on Oct 9th at 7PM EST, where I’ll be sharing the non-negotiable 4-year strategy every Black family needs to help their children rise, stand out, and secure scholarships in today’s changing landscape. Register here: https://meritmoneymethod.com/defythedecline Because the same way my dad taught me to fish differently for opportunity, I’m here to help the next generation do the same — with strategy, purpose, and vision. Thanks Dad! <3
